January was an action-packed month at LRTTC. We held our monthly tournament on January 11, 2014. To read about it and view photos, check out the tournament article.
On Saturday, January 25, there were a number of AITTA/Sherwood league matches played at LRTTC in addition to regular practice and lessons. We hosted over 18 people at the club. And just yesterday (Saturday, February 1), which was also February's Free Play Satruday, we have at least 14 players sweat it out on the courts.
The recent increase in players, especially on Saturday, means that we will be changing up table layout. On Second Saturday tournaments each month, we set up 6 tables, in 2 rows of 3, running East-West. Out typical weeknight setup on Tuesdays and Thursdays involves at least 3 tables, sometimes 4, in 1 row, running North-South. The North-South setup does not allow for additional tables to be set up if more players come in at a later time. Therefore, whenever the club is open, except for major sanctioned tournaments, we will begin setting up tables using the East-West layout. Although we may not set up all 6 tables on a particular day as soon as the club opens, if more players show up, there will be sufficient room to bring out more tables.
In addition, Mike Lauro was officially certified in January as an ITTF Level 2 (and Para) and USATT regional coach. If you or anyone you know is interested in lessons on a variety of topics ranging from basic skills to advanced techniques, email the club or contact Mike directly. We will be planning some regular free group lessons in the near future so stay tuned!
