Kedar, Mohan and Manju attended a table tennis camp on February 1-3, 2013 in Memphis. The camp was conducted by former U.S. National Champion and Olympian Dan Seemiller Sr and his son, who is rated around 2300. Chris Hardin of the Memphis Table Tennis Club organized the camp which took place at the Davis Community Center.
About 20 players attended the 3-day camp. Although LRTTC members were only able to attend 2 of the 3 of the days, both days were filled with vigorous training lasting 7 hours a day.
The camp started with basic training on how to do simple strokes, how far from the table to stand and other hand and foot coordination training. Coach Seemiller spent quite a bit of time on explaining different strokes and then asking participants to follow up. Training included forehand and backhand strokes, moving around the table, a couple of simple but most effective serves, and how to handle tricky serves.
Kedar, Mohan, and Manju had the opportunity to play against each other in the camp and get one-on-one training from Coach Seemiller and his son.
Overall, the trio enjoyed the camp and the opportunity to learn new skills from one of the top table tennis players in the world. One of the most important things was that they met a bunch of table tennis enthusiasts and made some good friends from the table tennis community in Memphis.
