For an exciting recap of the weekend, including photos, videos and recorded live streams, please read the detailed camp and tournament report "2019 Little Rock Hopes" by Mike Lauro which is published on the USA Table Tennis website.

On February 22-24, 2019, the Little Rock Table Tennis Club hosted one of the 2019 USA Hopes national training camps and qualifying tournaments at the Jim Dailey Fitness & Aquatic Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Little Rock Hopes camp and tournament was a successful and inspiring weekend of table tennis focused on developing youth athletes who someday may represent TTTeam USA on the national and international stage.

On the Sunday qualifying tournament, local athlete Alanis Hamilton (age 12) from Bentonville, Arkanas won the Hopes Girls round robin and qualified to participate in the first ever USA Hopes Week Camp and Tournament on April 15-21 at the Sacramento International Table Tennis Association in California.  Congratulations Alanis on a fine performance and well deserved accomplishment!

We also recognize and thank all of the young players and their parents and family for taking time out of their busy schedules to support the USATT Hopes program and the Little Rock Table Tennis Club.

Press Release - LRTTC Hosting 2019 USA Hopes Camp & Tournament, Feb 22-24, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 19, 2019
Little Rock, Arkansas

The Little Rock Table Tennis Club (LRTTC) is excited to announce the hosting of the 2019 USATT/ITTF Hopes Camp and Tournament events.  This national youth training camp takes place at the Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center (300 S. Monroe St., Little Rock, Arkansas, 72204) on Friday and Saturday, February 22-23.  The qualifying tournament will take place on Sunday February 24.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)/USA Table Tennis (USATT) Hopes Program (https://www.teamusa.org/usa-table-tennis/events/2019-usa-hopes-tour) is a series of regional, national and international camps and competitions designed to spark motivation and interest for skilled and talented young table tennis athletes who have a love for table tennis and who wish to become high-level players. Participants will receive expert coaching and training from USATT National Coaches for three days in a fun, rewarding environment in which they will have an opportunity to meet peers and share experiences.

At the camp, two local Arkansas coaches, Mike Lauro (https://arktta.org/coach) (USATT National/ITTF Level 3 Coach; Little Rock) and Russ Hamilton (USATT National Coach; Bentonville) will assist USATT High Performance Director Joerg Bitzigeio (https://www.teamusa.org/usa-table-tennis/athletes/Joerg-Bitzigeio) a former German National Team Coach.  A total of fourteen (14) youth athletes from six (6) different states have signed up for the camp and tournament.  The 3-day event includes 2 days of training sessions and one day of tournament competition.  Lunch and dinner will be organized for camp participants and their family on Friday and Saturday.

The training camps will take place on Friday and Saturday with 2 training sessions per day.   Friday's session are from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Saturday's sessions are from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  On Saturday, the afternoon break will include lunch, a visit to the nearby Little Rock Zoo (weather permitting), and a mini-table competition in which the kids participate in a fun and challenging singles tournament played on small table that is 1/4 the size of regulation table.  We plan to live stream the mini-table tournament.

On Sunday the USATT Hopes Qualifying Tournament begins at 10:00 a.m.  The Hopes Boys and Hopes Girls events provide opportunities for players to perform in a competitive environment against their peers for a chance to qualify for the next stage of training camps -- the USATT Hopes Week and Challenge that will take place on April 15-21, 2019 in Sacramento, California.  Players who qualify at the Hopes Week tournament will advance to the ITTF-North American Hopes Week and Challenge from May 27 to June 2, 2019 in Florida.  Qualifiers at the North American Hopes Week will participate in the ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge that will take place during August 2019 in the country of Oman.  There will also be an extra Junior event in which all of the players may compete.

Hotel accommodations:

For a hotel that is very close to the venue, we recommend the Four Points by Sheraton in Midtown. It is less than 2 miles from the venue. Coach Mike Lauro lives near this hotel.

For a hotel that is within walking distance to a number of attractions in Little Rock, then any hotel in the River Market District would be good choice. In the River Market you will be surrounded by shops, restaurants, museum, Clinton Library, parks, streetcar, etc. It's still just a short 10 minute drive to the venue from there. Of course you can also stay further away (10-20 minutes) in West Little Rock, but you mostly have to drive to other places as it is very spread out and not too good for walking.

The River Market is a family-friendly safe area. If there are family members coming to the Hopes camp and they want to do some shopping or sightseeing, this area would be good.

You might look into either of the hotels below:
Hampton Inn & Suites
Residence Inn by Marriott
