Happy New Year!

Welcome to January 2016 monthly tournament hosted at LRTTC.  This is our first tournament of the new year and our 24th monthly tournament.  It will be handicap format (see handicap point differential chart below).

The Activity Room in the Dailey Center was  abuzz today with what everyone agreed was the most enthusiastic monthly tournament ever, at least of 2016.  The handicap format with three games to 21 ensured that every player was invested in each point of each game, and upset the traditional finish order (Mike did not win).

Eight players comprised two groups of four.  Mohan dominated group 1 over Charlie, Mark and Mike, who was seen weeping openly on several occasions.  Mohan was cited for unsportsmanlike conduct after his victory over Mike.  Players are reminded that spiking and gloating are not allowed.

Ammar, a graceful unrated player from Russellville with a wide repertoire of serves, who was assigned a rating of 950 based on his play in the FOI tournament, won group 2 which included Jeff and Shelby, though Suresh gave him a tough match.

In the final Mohan outlasted Ammar 22-20 in the third.

The tournament raised $45 for the club, which we intend to use to purchase poly balls in anticipation of the tournament season.  Thanks to Mark for running the tournament, though there was some confusion over the 10:00 start time.  It is anticipated that future tournaments will use some type of handicap format, by popular demand, though games to 11 and 31 may be explored.

Update with Results: Monthly Tournament - December 19, 2015

The final LRTTC monthly tournament of 2015 was held Saturday, December 19, at the Jim Dailey Fitness & Aquatic Center with predictable results from the six player giant round robin.  The top three seeds; Mike, Primal and Siva; placed first, second and third, though Jeff gave Siva a tough run in their first round five-gamer.  Jeff also won the “most bang for his buck” award playing a total of 20 games in five matches.  The field was rounded out by Charlie and Suresh

The event was adequately managed by Mark (who would have played but was infirmed) in his role as Co-director of tournaments.  The next monthly tournament will be held January 16, and will be a best of three games to 21 handicap event using USATT ratings.

The tournament photos and results from will be posted later.
